Job Description:
Client is looking for an EHS Specialist to lead and enhance their Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This role will be responsible for owning compliance with OSHA, EPA, GMP, and other regulatory standards, implementing risk mitigation strategies, and fostering a culture of safety across our facilities. They want someone who can come in and make sure that all licenses and credentials are up date, conduct daily walk throughs, and do lab inspection on a monthly basis. They would like this person to understand the difference between an incident VS observation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, GMP, and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections to proactively identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Maintain and oversee OSHA records, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), and injury reporting systems.
- Ensure proper hazardous materials handling and disposal, in collaboration with waste management vendors.
- Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness
- Lead risk assessments and proactively implement corrective actions to reduce workplace hazards.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire, chemical spills, workplace violence, and other critical incidents.
- Establish and maintain incident reporting and investigation protocols, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective measures are implemented.
- Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including new hire orientations, annual safety training, and compliance certifications.

- Lead new hire lab safety orientations and ongoing safety refreshers.
- Drive a culture of safety and accountability across all levels of the organization.
- Workplace Safety & Facility Support
- Oversee lab safety inspections, hazardous materials storage, and emergency equipment maintenance (AEDs, first aid stations).
- Manage vendor relationships, including Cintas First Aid & Lab Coat services, ensuring regular service and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date emergency contact signage and evacuation plans.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Operations, and HR to address ergonomic workplace concerns and recommend solutions
- Establish and organize fire drills, evacuation exercises, and disaster response
- Ensuring employees understand emergency exits, muster points, and roles during an incident.
- Sustainability & Environmental Impact
- Implement and oversee environmental sustainability programs, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and chemical safety initiatives.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with EPA and environmental reporting requirements.
- Partner with internal teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in sustainability and safety practices.
- Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Track and analyze EHS metrics and KPIs, providing recommendations for improvement.
- Lead Safety Committee Meetings and drive action items forward.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices in biotech EHS management.
- Qualifications & Skills
- Preferred but not required: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in an EHS role within life sciences, biotech, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, GMP, and other regulatory standards; familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is a plus.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certification preferred.
- Experience with hazardous materials management, lab safety, and emergency response.
- Proven ability to develop and lead training programs and implement safety policies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to partner with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with EHS software, compliance tracking tools, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives, drive continuous improvement, and foster a culture of accountability.
